Diet + Exercise = Results

Keyword: Diet.

I’ve been telling myself that if I get that combination right then I’ll be ok. However the hardest part is sticking to that combination. I love to eat and I love to relax. That doesn’t really sound like a win-win situation. Actually, it makes me sound more like a pig – a couch potato to be exact.

Life, to me, is all about enjoying great culinary combinations. Granted, right now, my idea of great culinary combinations is anything that looks good on the menu when I eat out and I eat out A LOT. I can’t really cook because I was never a good obedient Indian daughter that cooked with her Mother. My Mom is a great cook and I could really learn a lot from her so maybe the next time I go home I might take advantage of it and learn a few things besides omelets, grilled cheese, and PB&J.;

Also after work, I just want to go home, read, watch TV, and relax. I don’t want to think about putting in an hour of labor and putting my body through a treadmill/strength training routine. So I thought about going in BEFORE work but I go in at 7. I would have to get to the gym by 4 or 5. Yuck!

So, I’m at a lose-lose.

For three years, I’ve wanted to be a size 6 before my birthday and here I am at year 4 and it’s August and I’m 5 months away from my 27th birthday. I’m training for a marathon and if I don’t exercise and diet I’ll never make it to the finish line or I’ll make it to the finish line and it won’t be in the best shape of my life. The goal is to finally fulfill that resolution that millions make but only few carry through.

Lesson learned? Not quite yet. Like everything, these things take time. For example, I’m having ramen for dinner and I’m working late which means I’ve missed two workout days and I had committed myself to four this week. Very bad. I did so good last week. I’m going to call this a “trial” period because we’re still at the beginning of this and we haven’t hit the big miles yet. However next week, I have no excuses.
