Late in July, I visited northern California for the San Francisco marathon and also took an opportunity to explore the area for a week. While, I was there I visited the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa and for a few hours, the Clover Stornetta booth was giving away free vanilla ice cream.
If you know me, ice cream ranks high as one of my favorite desserts. It’s also an important symbol of my birth. After my free dessert, I sent a tweet to thank Clover Stornetta. I had no idea that tweet would lead to a conversation and a generous thank you gift. After tweeting back and forth, I received an email from Cynthia Cruse, an executive assistant at Clover Stornetta thanking me for my support and requesting a physical address where I could be sent a “Wholly Cow” book and some coupons. A few days ago I received the book full of 40 years of billboards and a brief history of the company, a thank you note, and 8 coupons.
I am still amazed that a simple tweet about free ice cream led to such a great gift when in fact I was only trying to thank them. Talk about fantastic customer service and an awesome use of social media. Unfortunately, I live down south and can’t use the coupons unless I visit the north again sometime soon but I am grateful for the generous gift.
